Doug's 16th Birthday Bash

Doug's 16th birthday took place on Thursday (4/15/2004). To celebrate, we had a weekend full of activities, as you will see below. On mouse-over, you may see a short description of each image. Click on the picture of your choice to see an enlarged version of it.

Doug was doing his Monday afternoon chess at the public library when this picture was snapped. It wound up on the front page of the Banner-Herald for 4/13/2004, taking up almost an eighth of the page!
The Saturday following his birthday marked the beginning of the celebration. Doug and I began with our normal Saturday "bumming", i.e., running around town doing all sorts of errands and shopping. At noon, we had tickets to the G-Day intrasquad game at the University. We were able to go down onto the field, have a picture taken with Coach Richt, UGA (The Dawg) and much more.

As we were entering the stadium, Doug posed next to a picture of the much beloved UGA. Good shot of Doug. We're at the south end of the field, facing the scoreboard. The players are still warming up. Georgia's newest and youngest quarterback taking a snap from center. Doug with the latest mascot, UGA VI. You will notice that the dog is on top of a bag of ice and in the enlarged picture, you will be able to see that his dog house is even air-conditioned!

Hairy Dawg and Doug. Field level action. We eventually had to get off the field, so we moved up to a higher (and shaded) area of the stadium. The red team won in convincing fashion.

The Dance: Following the G-Day game, we headed to the Catholic Center for church and then a pizza party/dance to follow.

Doug had no lack of help in opening the many presents he received. Good friends (Joann & Stacy). Classmates (Vanessa & Biz). By this time, the party was beginning to warm up.

(l to r) Pamela, Sylvia, Caroline, Julia People came from all over. The lady in the wheelchair is a member of our church and will turn 101 soon.

Doug got tickets to the Georgia Force arena football game as one of his presents. So Sunday afternoon, it was off to Gwinnett.

It was a pretty exciting weekend for the boy. I must say that the parents welcomed a return to quasi-normal life!
